Overview

Robert Morisseau represents individuals and businesses involved in tax controversies with the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) and Massachusetts Department of Revenue (“MA DOR”). Robert is a graduate of Boston University School of Law Graduate Tax Program and New England School of Law.

Prior to joining the firm, Robert was a Senior Associate at Ernst & Young where he assisted clients with tax compliance, audit defense, and resolved controversies with federal, state, and local taxing authorities. Robert previously interned at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, Office of Appeals where he analyzed taxpayer appeals, participated in appeal conferences, and produced memos and recommendations regarding taxpayer appeals. While at New England Law, Robert clerked with the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board where he worked closely with the Board’s Commissioners on case analysis and produced draft Findings of Facts and Reports of Law.

Experience

Robert counsels clients with federal and state tax controversies, including:

  • Audit and Examination defense, including calculation of correct tax liability and minimizing penalties and interest
  • Collection matters, including Installment Agreements and Offers in Compromise, and Innocent Spouse Relief Requests
  • FBAR (Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts) requirements
  • Assisting taxpayers to become compliant with their tax obligations through voluntary disclosure programs
