Lawyers Have Heart 5K Road Race

A team from McMahon & Tivnan will be lacing up their running shoes on May 31 to participate in Lawyers Have Heart Boston.
Lawyers Have Heart Boston is a 5K road race and summer celebration. Since 2008, Lawyers Have Heart in Boston has raised more than $2 million to benefit the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association in support of the organization’s mission to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. More than 2000 members of the legal community participate in the event annually, in fact it sells out most years.
Correcting United States Income Tax and Foreign Asset Reporting Problems

D. Sean McMahon presented to the Massachusetts Society of Enrolled Agents on January 19, 2017. The presentation, “Correcting United States Income Tax and Foreign Asset Reporting Problems,” included discussion on a US taxpayer’s obligation to report foreign asset ownership and foreign income as well as the current IRS voluntary disclosure programs available for taxpayers to resolve past foreign asset reporting non-compliance issues.
Attendees were eligible for 2 IRS CPE credits.
33rd Annual National Institute on Criminal Tax Fraud and the Sixth Annual National Institute on Tax Controversy

Ethical Considerations in Individual and Family Representation

D. Sean McMahon presented at the ABA Section of Taxation and Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law, Trust & Estate Division 2016 Joint Fall CLE Meeting. Sean spoke on the “Ethical Considerations in Individual and Family Representation” panel.
The panel provided tax practitioners with an overview of ethical considerations applicable in the representation of individuals and families and discussed ethical issues involving scope of representation, conflicts of interest in joint representation, disclosures to the IRS, and the duty of confidentiality.
